Pro's:

* You can run 3 phase appliances (compressors, welders, large pumps)
* You essentially have 3 separate single phase lines to draw off, therefore allowing a larger capacity of consumption
*You can share outlets amongst phases

Cons:

*If a phase drops, your 3 phase appliances won't work
*You have 3 fuses to worry about at your service mains
*Your electricity provider has to worry about 3 step down transformers (normally) therefore more downtime during maintenance.

Not true. Undoubtedly for a given load the three-phase supply would be a third smaller. I can put the same amount of load on a three-phase system as I can on a single phase system, within reason. The only case where this may be true is that three-phase appliances generally use more power.

Conversely your single phase loads are more immune to loss of a phase.

Not sure what this means. Electricity is generally distributed in three-phase, by three-phase transformers
