My buddy has a hot tub that has its own 50 amp circuit breaker. this is then wired into the box on the wall which is an older style box. It has rectangular shaped boxes with a handle that you pull out the box with, and flip it over to turn off the power. the back side has two round screw in style 40 amp fuses. My question - is this panel rated for 40 amps or 80 amps.
I would have to say it is 40 amp. there would be a 40 amp fuse feeding each leg of a 220v circuit. I admit i have never seen a pullout that excepted screw in type s fuses but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist. I also havent ever known of a single phase hot tub(110volt.)
lol
fearfakter
p.s. if the hot tub hasnt blown the fuses by now thee probily big enough.
According to the National Electric Code, screw in fuse are rated for 125 volt and none are manufactured over 30 amps. It can't be right that you have 40 amp screw in fuses. There could be cartridge fuses in that pull-out rated at 40 amps. Just be careful because there is a whole chapter in the code on how to safely connect hot tubs and spas. Wet people and water can be deadly. Don't be afraid to get professional help on this. Safety first!
