Posted: 2007-01-11, 03:27 Oral interview please help
I am a veteran and want to pull out my Gi Bill. I have been in this
trade now for about 6 months. The company I work for is sending me
through an electrical certification program (4 years), which the
Veterans Administration does not recognized as an apprentice program.
Therefore will not let me use my Gi bill. So I requested to switch
programs and in order for me to be accepted is that I pass a few test'
mathmatical, reading, and a oral interview. My only worry is the "oral
interview". Does anyone out there have any idea how does the interview
go so I can pass. If I fail then it's money that I invested thrown out
the window. VA sends me a check to get myself back on my feet from
leaving the military. I only have one chance at this. Any tips, how
to dress, what type of questions, what to expect. Any tips/help would
be greatly appreciated.
My experience is with my local union. I was interviewed by 5 different representatives all at the same time. Them on one side of the table, me on the other, pretty intimidating... Here are my tips for your oral interview:
1. Dress to impress
2. Make an attempt to shake hands with the interviewers
3. Be sure you get the point across that this is your career path and not just another job. They want you invested in the program.
4. Be prepared for general interview questions. Try doing a web search for interview questions.
Dress up well, make eye contact with the Interviewer, shake hands once you meet your interviewer and before you leave. take time to answer but answer correctly. If you are vaue say you don't know.
